Partner Event Reservation – Oakville/George West

Texas Tropical Trail Region is hosting a special two-day Partner Event in Oakville and George West Friday, Nov. 6, and Saturday, Nov. 7, 2026. Partners can expect an adventure full of storytelling, heritage sites and historical figures.

Friday, Nov. 6

5 p.m. – 10 p.m. Dobie Dichos Festival, 107 Curry St, Three Rivers, TX 78071

Partners who purchase for “Friday & Saturday” or “Friday only” reservations will receive the following:
– A complimentary Texas Tropical Trail Region folding chair that can be used on the Dobie Dichos Festival grounds
– Dinner: chili con carne, pan de campo, dessert and bottled water
– Discounted rate at a local hotel (will receive lodging details after making reservations)

Saturday, Nov. 7

10 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. Welcome at the Dobie-West Performing Arts Theatre, 304 Houston St, George West, TX 78022

Light refreshments to be provided.

10:30 a.m. “History of the Dobie-West Performing Arts Theatre” with Glynis Strause

Inside the Dobie-West Performing Arts Theatre is the J. Frank Dobie exhibition which features a collection of artifacts related to the famous storyteller of Texas. Glynis Strause will lead the presentation.

11 a.m. “J. Frank Dobie, Live Oak County’s Most Famous Son” presentation with Mary Margaret Dougherty Campbell

J. Frank Dobie is Live Oak County’s most famous son whose contributions to folklore, literature, and storytelling remain prevalent in the 21st century.  The purpose of Dobie Dichos: Campfires, Chili con Carne, and the Words of J. Frank Dobie is to celebrate Dobie’s contributions and continued influence and keep his words alive. Mary Margaret Dougherty Campbell is a South Texas native with deep roots.  Her articles, essays, and poems have appeared in various publications.  She is a former educator, petroleum landman, and executive director of George West Storyfest Association, Inc. Currently, she is chairman of Dobie Dichos, Inc. and an independent researcher.

12:45 p.m. Visit the Grace Armantrout Museum, 1961 US-281, George West, TX 78022

2 p.m. Texas Tropical Trail Board Meeting at Grace Armantrout Museum

Hotel accommodations will be made available to Partners who make reservations by Sept. 18, 2026.

$40 – Friday evening event only with Texas Tropical Trail folding chair
$30 – Saturday afternoon event only (no folding chair available)
$50 – Both days with Texas Tropical Trail folding chair
